Dinner at Chevy's with Dan

Dan doesn't live in Prescott anymore, but since he used to, I dropped him in right here. Otherwise, my Prescott section would have only been one page long. This shot was taken by a saucy waitress at the Chevy's Restaurant in Sun City.

I've known Dan since I came back to San Diego from Texas in 1989. We were struggling financially, trying to resurface from the economic blows of Texas. Dan had his own gardening business, and hired me at a wage far more than I was worth. He'd met my father a couple months before he died, and apparently our family made an impression on him.

He taught me quite a bit about landscaping, botany, and life in general. He told me about his tough times just a couple years before we met, and assured me that my tough times would be just as short. I nodded and smiled politely, but after years of struggling, I didn't believe him.

Dan took a real personal interest in my psychological well-being, and pushed me to believe in myself. He was the spark which led to me becoming self-employed which led to the financial condition I'm in now; a far cry from the place I was when I met Dan.

Dan is an artist, besides his botanical and entrepreneurial skills. He's doing some writing these days, and if I get myself motivated, I may get to be involved.
